Summary of Document
This file contains minutes for the Technical Sub-Committee dated from December 1966 to November 1967. The majority of the discussion was on line standards for monochrome on UHF. Included in the reports were surveys undertaken by different organisations (TAM, Gallup, and the BBC) on reception of BBC-2, BBC-1 and ITV. There appeared to have been particular problems receiving BBC-2 as its dissatisfaction ratings were much higher than the other two services (35% as compared to 9% and 10% in the TAM survey, and 47% as compared to 18% and 19% in the BBC Report)
There was also a draft report from the Television Advisory Committee on the issue of line standards. This report covered the reasons, decisions, and pros and cons of using the 625 line standard. There was also a section on changeover plans, and reference to the Pilkington Committee. The decision was made to duplicate transmissions until those dependent on 405-line transmission dwindled.
