Summary of Document
As indicated in the file title, the date range for this file is from January to July of 1976. The file contains communications between the IBA and the London Broadcasting Company (LBC). The range of correspondence consisted of financial information, complaints procedures, scheduling, and sales and marketing policies. Also included were press clippings about LBC. Of particular note was press praise for LBC’s handling of PM Wilson’s resignation.
There are also several IBA Papers. IBA Paper 28(76) dealt with ‘rolling’ LBC’s contract, and IBA Paper 84 (76) dealt with its financial status due to its previously poor income, and LBC’s association with Independent Radio News (IRN). During this period there seemed to be some improvement in terms of both revenue and audience share. There are also documents that detailed the shareholders, and also proposed sales of shares.
There were also letters concerning IRN and its handling of minority issues and community relations. These letters were dated 10 June 1976. In addition, there were clippings and letters about a labour dispute that silenced the station several times over the course of July 1976.
