Summary of Document
Typical of the files related to ITV’s Education Department, this file contains an assortment of items, including reports, press clippings and correspondence. The file contains materials from as early as 1956 up to the end of 1981.
The documents from the 1950s and 1960s focussed on two strands of proposed foreign language programming – those aimed at adults for travel purposes, and those for children through the ITV Schools Department. The early plans were for French, with Tyne Tees proposing, in collaboration with Durham University, a course in Russian. In the mid-1970s, German language programming was also added. Most of this programming was produced by Thames Television.
